Welcome to Blue Moon Films…  How do we register the copyright for a script to ensure the story is protected from being copied. Though we like to think all our stories are unique than one person may conceive of a similar storyline.

If you are the first to copyright your script then you will have the protection you need to produce your script and/or sell it. In Canada you can register with the Writer’s Guild of Canada as well as the Writer’s Guild of America even if you are not a member.

Registering your script with the Writer’s Guilds is not considered official even though it does help. For official copyright protection go to the US Copyright office to register a script online in minutes (after creating a login and password) U.S. Copyright Office | U.S. Copyright Office. The fee is $60 USD. To register in Canada it’s the Canadian Intellectual Copyright Office https://www.ic.gc.ca.

The registration costs $50 CAD. As with the US copyright website both copyright offices allow you to create an account and pay online which keeps the process “green” and lean and you can move on to what you do best – writing your next script!!

DM us for any further questions! Have fun writing and copyrighting.
